Five inches of rain and debris in a creek sent flood waters in the south end of St Joseph.  Basements filled and spilled over into homes and yards, making the area looking more like a lake than a neighborhood.  Some residents had to be boated out with only the most basic of supplies – some with only the clothes they were wearing.  Then, in the next few days, as the waters receded, the full devastation became known.  Many lost everything and would have to start over.  But they wouldn’t be alone.

South Side Lions joined the efforts to help bring relief to the people of the south end.  South Side President, Lion Devon Campbell spoke to his club which resulted in funds being allocated to InterServ in St Joseph for flood relief.  A call was sent out for a food drive that included a friendly challenge to other service organizations.  Additional information was put out to encourage donations of household goods to help replace items that were lost – from dishes, to clothing, to furniture, to appliances – all to boost the South Side residents and let them know that people are available to help.

Lions were able to show how “We Serve.”
